Free Mint Projects Are Back! Here's Some Upcoming Projects

Free mint?! Did someone say free mint? Oh, we love free things! Just the fact that we don’t have to pay for it makes us happy. We’re not the type to ignore free things. We won’t ignore free food, free Wifi, Free fire, and we like to talk about free mints too.

Free mint? What’s that?

Well, it’s mint that’s free!

Free mint is a growing trend in the world of NFT thanks to the bear market. Because the market isn’t so favorable at the moment, people aren’t willing to invest in NFT projects. So most new creators have to put out their projects without charging any fees for the minting.

The Goblins are the biggest example of NFT projects that started with free mints. On release, each collector only got to mint one goblin NFT without any charges (one human gets one Gob).

Remember the days where minting a project was at least $300? Yea not fun

What’s special about Free Mints?

Free mints used to be a thing in the growing days of NFTs, then as NFTs became more popular last year, creators started charging people for NFTs minting rights. So, most of the collections released in late 2021 were not free mints.

Okay, now that free mints are popular again, what should you expect?

It’s simple, if you’ve always wanted to own NFTs, this is the best window for you to get one for free! There are several upcoming projects offering free mints and you can take advantage of the opportunity to secure some assets. Below are three of the most popular free mint projects on Twitter right now.

Moonrunners NFT

We’ll start with the collection that’s currently ranked #1 in trading volume in the past 24 hours on Opensea. Do we need to say anymore as to why we find it interesting?

Anyway, Moonrunner is another 10k PFP collection consisting of pixelated wolf avatars. Like many other notable previous free mints, the project is a CC0 collection. So, it has no road map, Discord, or utility. But it aims to “under promise and overdeliver.” is it us or does that sound kinda cliche?

The project was first minted on June 24th and it sold out not long ago. However, it still stands at a floor price of 0.37 ETH on Opensea.

DegenTown NFTs

This is an upcoming free mint NFT project which is surprisingly gaining traction on Twitter. The project has no Discord, or Road map and is listed as stealth mint (don’t know when the mint will commence), yet the Twitter page has already amassed over 32k followers without following anyone. The pixel art on Degen town looks really good and some sneek peeks look to be animated. What we do find interesting is the challenge on their Twitter bio which reads “ARE YOU DEGEN ENOUGH TO ENTER?” Well, are you?

WZRDS NFTs

Troll-like wizards, a bit of fantasy, and something about Chalice of worthiness selecting candidates for the whitelist. It’s a bit of everything from wizards of OZ to the wizards of Hogwarts, except, it seems the wizards in the backstory have magically lost their magic. So now they need a savior (More like 10,000 saviors) to “rise and save Tyrol.” Yes, Tyrol is the city of the WZRDs.

Quite the intriguing storyline on wzrds.xyz, an interesting whitelist selection procedure (You have to DM the Chalice of worthiness to your ETH address), and minting starts today at 3pm for whitelist and 4pm for public. In all, the collection contains 10,000 PFP avatars all going for free mints. And of course, the project has no Discord, road map or expressly stated utility.

These are some of the most popular free mints collections making the rounds on the NFT space. And of course, we have no affiliation whatsoever with any of the projects, and neither is this post meant to provide financial advice. So do what you will with the information.

NounsDao Hacker Hosted A Twitter Space

Another hack in the NFT space, are we surprised? Hardly. We literally went “ Same sh#t, different day” when we first saw the announcement. But we found this sh#t a little more interesting when we heard the hacker pulled a ballsy move.

It’s one thing to spy on an account to steal data (happens every time); it’s another thing to hack an account to post phishing links (no longer surprising). But this hacker decided that those two were child’s play, so they organized a Twitter spaces event. And that’s the most brazen move we’ve ever seen any scammer pull. Bro’s got balls the size of Nouns Treasury (or how else would you explain the audacity?)

Okay, what happened?

Earlier on Monday, a hacker somehow got access to Nouns DAO's official Twitter account. Then, as is the usual practice of scammers, they proceeded to post a few phony offers with links that most definitely led to phishing pages (We’re not certain, we didn’t click the links).

Of course, the tweets have since been taken down, but here’s what the hackers tried to do. In their first post, they tried to get Nouns DAO followers to participate in a raffle for Nouns 355 and 356.

Then they tried to incite the followers to engage with promises to airdrop Nouns’ DAO Passes after minting. Expectedly, the only requirement is that you must have Nouns in your wallet to qualify for the raffle. (Suspicions up, why can’t we use burner wallets?)

But it seemed the initial attempts weren’t working, so the hacker decided a Twitter space would do the trick. So they hosted one to urge listeners to participate in the “free raffle.”

Fortunately, it seems most participants could tell the space was a sham. Twitter user herin.eth had an interesting take on the event, saying, “First time listening to live scamming.” We imagine it must have been quite the experience (Lol).

Nouns DAO Has since regained control over the account and removed the hacker’s posts. The NFT developer punk4156 had earlier warned followers of the compromise while instructing users not to click any links from the account.

Then, after regaining the account, punk4156 apologized to the Noun community, claiming that order had been restored to the Nouniverse. He ended it by urging anyone that may have been affected by the malicious activity to reach out via dm.

GTA 6 Is Going To Be Play 2 Earn?

Rockstar Games have never failed to deliver with the multiple series of the GrandTheft Auto games they’ve released over the years. Really, the GTA V reviews will help you understand what we’re talking about if you’ve never played any GTA game.

That said, you thought the last GTA installment was Amazing; get ready for mind-blowing additions in the forthcoming installment (Are we exaggerating it? maybe just a little). But for real, things may just get much more interesting once the new release launches in 2024.

Why does it have to take so long? (Facepalm). So, why are we talking about a game coming out in 2 years?

Well, recent leaks sparked speculations that crypto play-to-earn mechanics are being integrated into the game. If the rumors are true, then players will be able to earn and trade crypto within GTA!

Why do we believe the rumors?

Rockstar Games have been regularly adding systems that’ll enable players to earn in-game in the franchise's previous installments. They started in 2008 GTA 4, where they included a building named Liberty City Stock Exchange. However, it was inaccessible to players at the time.

Then the 2013 GTA V installment allowed players to trade stocks. Players could access BAWSAQ A and LCN via their smartphones to exchange stocks. And they can earn free money by completing the “Stock Market Assassination Missions.” We’re today years old when we learned that. (Been missing out on free money.)

These features of the previous installments show how progressive the franchise is towards making the game more rewarding for players. So, the rumors of a crypto P2E element in the coming release don’t seem far-fetched.

Nonetheless, there have been no official confirmation or denial (please don’t break our optimisms) from the creators. So we’ll go start the “Stock Market Assassination Mission” while anticipating the comments from Rockstar games.
