10 Days Until NFT NYC

All roads lead to the Time Square on June 20th. That’s right, it’s only 10 days to NFT.NYC and this year’s event promise a lot – according to the organizers.

What is NFT NYC?

NFT NYC is like “The Super Bowl of NFTs” according to Jessica Williams, Director, Brand, and Partnerships of Coinbase.  It's an event that brings together the brightest minds in the NFT space to educate, collaborate and discuss current trends/ideas.

The organizers have shortlisted 1,500 individuals to speak on a range of topics from sports, music, art, fashion, gaming, DAOs, and Investment, to the Future of NFTs over the three days of the event, is that still a shortlist? Sounds like a catalog.

Jodee Rich and Cameron Bale are the founders of NFT NYC, and this year will be the fourth one. The community response to the program has been tremendous. The organizers announced they’re expecting 15,000 attendees, the largest attendance by far.

But here’s the best part, several big-name projects will be hosting their own events during the time of NFT NYC. Projects like BAYC (Apefest), Cool Cats (Cooltopia), and Doodles NYC. These events are mainly for holders but nonetheless, some heavy hitters will be attending them.

What will the streets of NYC look like with thousands of degens roaming them? We will keep you posted as we come closer to the event.

Sartoshi Moves On From Mfers

It’s a sad time for NFT meme-lovers as we witnessed another break-up between a parent and their child. Hold on a minute. Is this a tragic story?

Well, kinda. It’s about an NFT creator who had to leave their project behind for unknown reasons; now, the project has to grow and survive without them. It’ll be better if we first introduce the characters in the story like every other regular drama.

Who is Sartoshi?

As you can already guess, Sartoshi is a pseudonym for an anonymous meme creator who also collects NFTs. The artist is credited with the creation of the Mfers NFT project.

What are Mfers?

Mfers is an NFT project that’s more meme than actual artwork. For context, you must have seen an NFT of a stick figure with a big round head, wearing headphones. Yes, that’s a Mfer NFT. Not so much of an art, you might say, but people like it anyway. ( Tell that to the folks labeling it as an insult to hard-working “real” artists on Twitter.)

Some say mfers is the first meme collection, no discord, no roadmap, no utility. Just memes mfer.

What Happened Between Sartoshi and the Mfers?

It all began in late November last year when Sartoshi made the Mfers NFT collection available for purchase. And sure enough, the project was an instant hit, selling out the original 10,000 items in under 10 minutes at 0.069 eth. Nice. The project even reached an all-time high floor price of around 6 eth.

Fast-forward to June 9 this year; the NFT community got a shocker when the creator posted his final art – an image of a stick figure with the writings “end of sartoshi. Gn mfers”. Sartoshi didn’t give a reason for the move. Instead, they laid out a plan for the future of mfers without them in a blog post. Summarized Below

  • Ownership of Mfers’ smart contract will be transferred to its community of holders via its unofficial multi-sig wallet

  • The Royalty distribution will be changed such that 50% of the share goes to the multi-sig wallet, 25% goes to the creator’s wallet, 15% goes to westcoastnft (mfers main devs team) and 10% goes to other mfers consults.

  • The Six Mfer giveaway will still take place after ajc album sells out

  • To close with a bang, minting of end of sartoshi collection on 6/9

Of course, there are several speculations regarding the reasons for the move. However, the only significant clues available are a series of previous tweets from random Twitter accounts predicting that Sartoshi would disappear into the background like Satoshi Nakamoto.

Not to mention Sartoshi's Twitter account has been deactivated. Many people on Twitter are outraged, calling Sartoshi a scammer and rug pull.

🤣 How About A Laugh?

Nickelodeon Announces NFT Collection

Nickelodeon isn’t about to get left behind in the NFT race. The storied franchise has taken huge strides into the world of NFTs. But there have been mixed reactions to its most recent project launch announcement.

Who doesn't know Nickelodeon? I mean it's a piece of everyone's childhood. Nothing beat waking up on the weekend and binge-watching classics like Spongebob, Rugrats, The Fairly Odd Parents. etc

Nickelodeon recently teamed up with Funko to launch an NFT project. The collection, which features some of the all-time favorites such as Hey Arnold, Rugrats, and Invader Zim, was the first wave of Nickelodeon's exploration into the NFT space.

But now, they took a more daring approach by throwing classics from the 90s in the mint machine. And this time around, they did it with Recur.

For those who don't know, Recur is a tech company specializing in helping big-name brands get into NFTs. They've partnered with big brands like Paramount, Care Bears, Top Gun, and Star Trek.

To announce the new project, Nickelodeon tweeted a video with the caption, “ The 90s called. They want your attention back. If you’re reading this… you’re early.” The video then starts by displaying the writing “The following program is rated Web3,” which is then followed by snippets of clips from the classics on a CRT TV.

But the Reception Was Bad…

While Nickelodeon may have had good intentions rebooting the old classics as NFTs, many of their followers don’t seem to appreciate the effort. Many people were outraged at the news, claiming this was just a cash grab.

We've seen this many times in the space; Big name brands announce their projects, and the community usually has a negative reaction. For example, not too long ago, Budweiser launched their project, Budverse Cans. The community reacted to the project claiming it to be another cash grab by large companies.

Although the feedback wasn't great, it's exciting to see what these big name brands have up their sleeve. In our opinion having SpongeBob Nfts doesn't sound that bad.
