Seth Green Reacquires Stolen BAYC NFT
Chris Griffin from family guy, I mean actor Seth Green purchased Bored Ape #8398 for the star of White Horse Tavern.
WHT is a show exploring the life of BAYC #8398 as a âfriendly neighborhood bartender.â Weâre talking real Hollywood stuff here (sucks that it wonât be the first ape main character in a movie).
But an anonymous hacker had other ideas when he threw a monkey wrench in Seth Greenâs plans (Yikes). The scammer used a phishing scheme to lure the actor into disclosing his wallet details. They then got into Mr. Greenâs wallet and kidnapped the Ape, which Seth had named Fred Simian. Cool name, by the way, (Howdy, Mr. Simian?).
Expectedly, everyone thought that was the end of the Hollywood dream for Fred Simian, and he may have to spend the rest of his life as a bored prisoner wasting away in an anonymous collectorâs wallet. But Mr. Green wasnât done yet; he wasnât going to let that happen to Fred (Here comes the hero in a round-neck T-shirt and blazers to save the day!)
Seth confirmed on Thursday on a Twitter Spaces event that his NFT âis home.â But it wasnât for free. Transaction records showed that Mr. Green had to pay an NFT collector, âMr. Cheeseâ @DarkWing84, $297,000 to get the NFT back.
Mind you, Mr. Cheese wasnât the scammer that stole the assets in the first place. The collector claimed to have also bought the NFT âin good faithâ for around $200,000 in May.
Nothing Can Stop Fredâs Hollywood Dreams Now⌠Right?
Well, we hope so, but for now, weâre afraid thatâs not the case. While Mr. Green has reacquired the NFT, licensing rules may still stand in the way of the actor's plans.
Licensing rules applied to the BAYC collection state that the creators own the Brandâs copyrights, but they give owners of individual NFTs licence to use the images they own as they like. So, owners can use the rights granted by Yuga Labs to create content and merch featuring the assets they own.
However, those rules donât account for stolen and reacquired NFTs. As such, weâre still not sure if Mr. Green will be able to continue with his plans
Jim Carrey Auctions Off Personal Artwork As NFT
Do we get tired of reporting degen celebrities and their latest NFTs? Nope, we donât. Because These are the news that makes the NFT world go round or towards the metaverse. The newest celebrity degen on our list is comedian Jim Carrey who recently minted his genesis collectible on SuperRare with a current bid of 42.35 eth.
The actor has been putting his creativity on display as a painter and political cartoonist in recent years (Youâd be surprised how good the Cable Guy actor is with the brush). And he took it a step further by creating his first digital collectible last week.
The actor, who is now more of an artist, based the NFT on his painting named Sunshower. Expectedly, the NFt bears the same name as its backing artwork. The NFT features a digital version of an acrylic painting which is a cascade of colors depicting an adult male soaking up rain droplets and sun rays on a scraped canvas.
But it comes with a little twist. The image will be accompanied by a voice-over of an original meditative message produced by Jim Carrey and filmmaker David Bushell. Weâd love Jim to use âThe Maskâsâ voice for this one. (Smokin! Thatâs one spicy NFT!â
The message which will be voiced by the actor also serves as a fitting description for the NFT. While announcing the NFT auction, the actor acknowledged the inspiration for the artwork as his âvivid imagination and a burning desire to share his peculiarities and inspirationsâ in an emotional tweet (No, weâre not crying). He ended it by saying, âI hope this NFT does for you what it did for me.â
Interestingly, Carreyâs announcement comes a few days after he bought his first NFT. Earlier this month, he purchased an NFT of the image of Stalinâs Sanitorium, named âThe Wild Within - Devotionâ by Photographer Ryan Koopmans.
Carreyâs NFT is reportedly worth thousands of dollars, and the auctions will close on Tuesday. (You still have a few hours before it goes off sale).
Interesting stuff Jim; hopefully, we might get to see more of that and the âolâ funney Jim Carrey.â
